Dynamic arrest during the spreading of a yield stress fluid drop

چکیده
We study the spreading of drops made yield-stress fluids. In contrast to what is observed in Newtonian fluids, final contact angle reached by drop depends on size, its yield stress, and liquid/solid hydrodynamic boundary condition. This highlights crucial role dynamic history. then extend classical Young's law case stress particular, considering that shape set a dynamical arrest, we predict angle.

Finite stopping times for freely oscillating drop of a yield stress fluid
The paper addresses the question if there exists a finite stopping time for an unforced motion of a yield stress fluid with free surface. A variational inequality formulation is deduced for the problem of yield stress fluid dynamics with a free surface. The free surface is assumed to evolve with a normal velocity of the flow. We also consider capillary forces acting along the free surface. Base...
متن کاملOn the existence of a simple yield stress fluid behavior
Materials such as foams, concentrated emulsions, dense suspensions or colloidal gels, are yield stress fluids. Their steady flow behavior, characterized by standard rheometric techniques, is usually modeled by a Herschel-Bulkley law. The emergence of techniques that allow the measurement of their local flow properties (velocity and volume fraction fields) has led to observe new complex behavior...

A spreading drop of shallow water
The theoretical solutions and corresponding numerical simulations of [Schär & Smolarkiewicz, J. Comput. Phys, 128 (1996) 101]) are revisited. The original abstract problem of a parabolic, slab-symmetric drop of shallow water spreading under gravity is extended to three spatial dimensions, with the initial drop defined over an elliptical compact support. An axisymmetric drop is considered as a s...
متن کاملFingering instability of a sheet of yield-stress fluid.
We study the fingering instability that occurs at the contact line of a thin sheet of a yield-stress fluid flowing down an incline. We derive an expression for the wavelength of the finger pattern as a function of inclination angle for a Herschel-Bulkley fluid. The wavelength is predicted to diverge at a finite angle which is related to the yield stress of the fluid. We also measure the wavelen...
